History

Phitek Systems is a world leading innovator in advanced electro-acoustic technologies for personal listening. We were established in 2003 by our CEO, Mark Donaldson, out of a need to provide premium class passengers with the benefits of ambient noise cancellation when using in-flight entertainment (IFE) equipment. Within three years Phitek had established a commanding lead in the supply of integrated and headphone based noise cancellation solutions to major aviation customers including Singapore Airlines, Qatar, Emirates, Air New Zealand and Finnair. Today the company has clear ownership of this segment with almost a quarter of a million seat installations worldwide.

In 2005 we established a second segment of business by applying knowledge gained from solving the complex problems associated with presenting a quality audio experience to passengers at thirty thousand feet, to products tailored for general use on the ground.

Since developing its first battery powered noise cancelling headphone in 2005, we have grown our business in this segment significantly, producing a wide variety of products for companies including Logitech, Audio Technica, GN Netcom, Panasonic, Maxell Corporation, and Creative Labs. Our products have received overwhelmingly positive endorsement from leading market commentators and are generally recognized as being best in class.

In 2007 it was becoming clear that noise cancellation technology was destined to become a standard feature in audio devices designed for personal listening and we had a growing command of this domain. In order to position our business to meet the emerging needs of our customers in this regard, we invested significantly in the development of innovative and highly integrated forms of its technologies. Its vision was to deliver the key elements of the acoustic science necessary to enable products with a high performance active noise cancellation capability first to market and at the lowest possible cost of ownership.

Today, we comprise three business units focused on supporting our customers enhance their products with our advanced electro-acoustic solutions in the commercial aviation, consumer audio and mobile music markets.

Our company has global operations with key offices in Auckland, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Lausanne. It has a total staff count of 75, and sales in the tens of millions of dollars US.
